CLEVEDON.
Sergeant Robert Douglas Wilson, who has been wounded at the Dardanelles, was born at Clevedon
in 1888, educated at Wairoa South Public School, and carried on the occupation of farmer with bis tather, Mr J. E. Wilson. Joining the Franklin Mounted Infantry aB bugler at the age ot 12 years on tbe formation of that corps, ne rose to be sergeant-major, and gained his long service badge at 24. He represented Clevedon Football dubbin tbe Franklin Union in 1911, winning his cap. He also represented Clevedon in the Manukau Union in 1912-13-14, and also represented the Union for the same three years in inter-Union matches. Having taken up a bush farm in the Otau district, 12 miles from Clevedon, he resigned from the Mounted Infantry, but had not handed in his uniform when war broke out. Coming out from the bush one Saturday evening, he hunted up a horse on Sunday, donned his accoutrement, and rode into camp at Epsom on Monday morning, where he was appointed sergeant. 01 powerful physique, he captained a team in Egpyt, and won a gold medal at the military tjurnament at Cairo against 25 other teams picked from the Australasian Mounted Forces at wrestling on horseback. Vjulunteerirg in Egypt as an infantryman with tbe rest of bis comrades of the Main Expeditionary Fore?, he went to Gallipoli in May, and was wounded on the Bth August.
