TE HIHI—KARAKA.

A most enjoyable and successful invitation dance, organised by tlie employees of Messrs Arthur Yates & Co , Ltd , Waiau Seed Farm, in aid of the Countess of Liverpool's Waistcoat Fund for soldiers, was held in the Te Hihi school on Friday last. The M.C's. were Mr Jack Frow and Mr Tom Stayte, assisted by Mr Dan Smith and Mr K. Watson as Stewards, the decorations being in the capable hands of Mrs Lioscombe, Miss Hunter and Mr Richard Birch. About 40 friends assembled and a full programme of dancing was gone through,—most of the music being provided by Mr Irwin—interpersed by a song from Miss Irwin, which was encored, duets by Mr Kahu and Mr Noda, and a sprightly cake walk by Master Tom Rangi, all of which gave great pleasure. An excellent supper was proyided by Mr Baker and was presided oyer by Mrs and the Misses Doris and Phyllis Lipscombe. The chief triumph of confectionery was a large cake beautifully iced which was sold at sixpence a piece and realised a largo sum. Alter supper some bouquets of daffodils and other choice flowers which had been sent from Auckland by Mrs Yates, were offered for sale by Mr Smith who dilated wittily upon their beauty and fragrance and obtained most satisfactory prices for them. The lirst was sold to Mr Colin Clarke, Mr Urijuhart and Mr Lupton, being handed back for re-sale, and realised about £l. The entire proceeds were a little more than £3. Dancing was then continued until the small hours of the morning, and the next meeting, arranged for the 17th inst., is being pleasurably anticipated, when it is hoped the waistcoat fund will be further augmented.
