WHANGARATA.
On Friday last the second euchre and dance social was held in the scLoolhouse. The euchre players to the number of 28 seemed to be having a most enjoyable time, judging by the peals of laughter which were repeatedly heard. When they came t) the counting up there wer<! teveral in each case who had won the same number ot games, so it was decided to draw for the prize?, Mrs Johnstone being the winner of the first for ladies (a pair of silver jam spoons presented by Mr A. H. Tapper, of Tuakau), and Mr W. Brewster securing fiM for men (a silver matcb-box and sovereign case combined). The merriment piizss fell to the I ' of two boys, one having played a lady's part. A dainty supper was then passed round, the tea being specially good on this occasion. Then amid much amusement the prizes were presented by Mr Ewing. After this dancing was indulged in till 2 a.m., the floor being in lovely condition. Good music was provided by Messrs Whiteside and (J. Keston. The last-named proved a very capable M.C., and a very pleasant time was spent by the young people. Several ladies present were busy at work with their knitting needles. The proceeds of the evaning were for the purpose of augmeuting the funds of the Ladies' Patriotic Working Club. A very successful sale was held at Mr Huston's on Saturday, good prices being realised. The weather is rather unsatisfactory at present and is retarding operations for cropping.
