: SOLDIERS HONOURED. On Friday night last, under the ! aus, ices of the I'arlianien'ary I Union, a gatnering cf unusual . ittcrest was held in the Buck land , Public Hall, viz., to welcome our j wounded soldier, Private B. de , Vries, and ta bid farewell to the followifg "boys' leaving for Trenth3m:-Me:sra B. Delanev, J. r Walker, J. Johnson, A. Aliitgton, U. Marshall and A Bealing. The stage was tastefully decorated with bunting Hnd fUgs, and 3 special credit should be given to the 3 following for their effective handi- , w;rk, namely, Misses Neal, Bagi nail acd Davy. i Mr E. Piggot occupied the clsai', r and in bis opening remarks apolur gised for the absence ot Mr A. r Bealing, wto had already 1 ft lor Trentham. i Stirring speeches were given by, i Messrs E. Allan, H. fl. D Wily i and 0. G. Avery, i The opening item by the school i children was the singing of the 1 French and Russian Anthems, which 1 did credit to their teacher, Miss 1 G. Bcjgnall. Songs were rendered ■ by Miss Bagnall, Mi ; s Davy, Mr J. Walker and Mr A. Smith; a piar.o----i forte duet was given by the Misses i Allan and Home, and recitations by r Mr L. Harper, Miss R. Jackson and i Miss Myrtle Neal. I Private de Vries' appearance on the platform was greeted with deafening cheers. Mr B. Delaney, on behalf of the • "boys" leaving, thanked those * present for the evening accorded ' them. 1 At the conclusion of the concert 3 eupp.r was served by the ladie?. A collection was taken, with the " result that £1 12s was handed over '■ to the Lady Liverpool League for ' the purchase of wool. The evening concluded with a 1 dance. ! LADY LIVERPOOL LEAGUE. The monthly meeting ot the Buckland branch of the Lady Liverpool League was held in the Public Hall , on Thursday alterooun last. The . president, Mrs Wily, occupied the chair, and twenty-one ladies were present. The usual business was gone through. It was decided to hold a "Red Cross Evening" on Wedneeday, August 25th, in order i to secure more funds for the Leagu ', and the committee hope it wlil be well patronised. The following articles were . handed in:—Socks-Mrs Scott, Mrs McKean, 5 pairs each; Mr McAnally, 4 pairs; Mrs Harris, 3 pairs*; Mrs Hugh Barter, Mrs Jesser, Mrs Walker, junr., Mrs Attenborrow, Mrs Avery, Mrs Williams, Mrs J. Barber, Mrs Johnston, Miss Johnston, 1 pair each; Miss Driver, 2 pairs. Caps.— Miss Eva Harns and Miss Neal, t each; Misses Jume McKean, Una Wily, Freda Jackson, Grace Neal, Pipi Wily, Mrs McAnally, Mrs Murray and Mis Kelson, one each. Scaives.—Mm Home, senr., Mrs Davy, 1 each. Cholera belt.—Miss Pipi Wily, 1. Mrs Hornr, senr , 15 articles of children's clothing.
