PATUMAHOE.

FARMERS' UNION MEETING. , Tiie acnual meeting of the Mauku branch of the Farmers' UDion was held in the Patumahoe Hall on Monday of last week there being a very good attendance. Mr W. Finlsy, president, was* in the chair. ihe secretary presented the balance sheet, which showed receipts £23 17s 9d and expenditure £22 12s Id, leaving a credit balance of £1 5s Bd. The Uniun has a total membership of 74. A letter was read from Major Lusk in connection with the nationality of the provincial secretary, Mr A. Scbmitt, and all present were quite satisfied that he was a true British subject. Correspondence was read in connection with the Graziers' Association and other matters, the same being deferred for consideration till next meeting. It was decided to accept the offer of Mr Donald to give three lectures on Agriculture in the hall on May lOtb, 17th ar.d 24th. The president referred to the great benefit to be derived from tneee lectures and advised ail present to attend. The rabbit pest problem was discussed, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Rabbit Inspector to ask him to visit the district. % Two new members were elected, namely, Messrs E. W. Hill and W. S. Hill, of Ti Ti Farm, Mauku. [ The president was nominated to represent the Mauku branch at the annual Conference to be held in Auckland.

It was decided to hold the monthly euchre soeials this winter as usual, the first to he held on Monday evening, 3rd May.

The election of officers and committee for the ensuing year was as follows:—President, Mr W. Finlay; vice-president,Mr Stanley Hill; secretary, Mr H. Melvill Criepe; auditor, Mr Guthrie; committee, Messrs E. C. Cuff, J. B. Goldsworthy, W. Howe, H. Taylor, N. Litchfield, R. Fulton, H. Hay, J. Johns, S. Rowe, E. G. Knight.

The survey has been completed of a secticn donated to the Postal Department as a site for a new post office in Patumahoe, for which the sum of £BOO was voted in the last session of Parliament. The Department recognised that the present office is far too small to meet the increasing busines?.
