PAPAKURA.
Mr McKenzie, statinmaster, has returned from his holidays and bag again taken up duty. The adjourned meeting of the Papakura Town Boaid was held on Monday evening last, when the following members were present : Messrs A. Willis (chairman), E. Mears, T. Campbell, D. Stewart, J. H. Bates, D. W. Jones, and the clerk, Mr H. Geissler. Owing to the lateness of the season it was decided to leave the matter of attending to the footpath between Mr Widdowson's property and the Presbyterian Church, until after the winter, but in the meantime to protect the footpath and the public by erecting a fence. It was decided to place scoria in front of the shops and dwelling houses on the South road, the entrance to Mrs Carr's property to receive special attention. As Mr Hall was unable to attend to the drawing of plans for lots 6 to 13 of the Cemetery reserve, it was decided to invite Mr M. Wilson to act.
In connection with the frequency of cyclists and vehicle drivers riding and driving on footpaths in the district it was decided to erect posts on corners, where necessary. It was agreed to paint, internally, the two tanks (which are at present leaking) which act as reservoirs for the public trough in Broadway. While expressing sincere thanks to Messrs Willis Bros., for their generosity in providing drink for all thirsty animals, by keeping the water trough in the centre of the town filled at their own expense, i the Board thought it time the public shared in the expense of filling the two tanks and keeping them full and it was decided to ask Messrs Willis Bros, for an estimate of the cost. A letter was received from Mr B. Burns, Auckland Provincial Belgian Belief fund, asking the Board to contribute to the fund for the purchase of the Lindauer collect ion of pictures.—Decision was deferred until the next regular meeting. It was decided to erect signboards at the corner of Presbyterian Church and Wallis' Church directing drovers of animals where to take stock instead of going through the township. The question of a " tip" is happily settled for a time, as the end of Elliott street and gully in Queen street can be used as such. Permits will be issued at a charge of 6d each. It was decided to strike the rates for 1915-16 at the next monthly meeting of the Board. The Board's debit balance was reported to be £ 149 5s Bd.
