PAPAKURA.

The usual monthly meeting of the Papakura Patriotic League was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday, February 4th. Mr Alfred Willis presided over a fairly large meeting The eecretaay's and treasurer's reports were discussed and adopted. The latter's report showed a balance in the bank and on hand of close on £6O, which the meeting considered very satisfactory. The annual meeting of the Papakura Athletic Club was held in the Globe Hotel on Thursday evening last. Mr E. S. Cole presided. There were also present: Messrs L. Schundt, W. Crichton, H. Smith, M. Dempsey, H. Wilson, R. H. Wilson, B. Johnson, J. Francis, W. Mcintosh and the secretary, Mr L. J. Mills.— Matters in connection with the forthcoming sports meeting were discussed.—Mr H. Wilson proposed, and Mr W. Crichton seconded, and it was agreed, that the Cup money he increased from £2O to £2s.—lt was decided to delete several races (mainly amateur events) from the programme and to add in their place six Scotch dancing events.—After considerable discussion it was decided that the club should affiliate with the Northern Athletic Associa-tion.-It was decided to hold the sports meeting at Easter, on a date to be decided on later.—The balance sheet, which showed a credit balance of £8 5s 6d, was read and adopted.—Mr L. J. Mills was unanimously re-elected secretary and treasurer to the club. The mysterious burning of a hay Stack valued at £75, approximately, at Papakura, on Friday night, is excitiDg considerable speculation amongst the farmers and public as to the origin of the fire. Messrs H. Wilson and Sons, blacksmiths and coachbuilders, of Papakura, have opened a branch shop at Manufewa- The business is being controlled by Mr H. Wilson, junr.
