BOMBAY.

The usual picnic celebration in honour of the passengers that arrived in the ship Bombay and ' settled in Bombay, will be held on the 18th March at Bombay. Of those that arrived by the ship and settled in Bombay, the following ' remain in the district, viz., Mr and Mrs C. K. Cornthwaite, Mr and Mrs W. Vince, Mr and Mrs D. B. Allison, Mrs Cuthbert, Mrs Landon serir., Mrs Balme, Mrs Bote, Mrs McCb'.ue, Mrs Sharp senr., «and jgf sr~ H. Carter, W. Caie, H. J. ]sP~j. Sturgeon, W. Partridge, H. Sawder, J. N. Sawyer and Messrs Chas George and iiobert Wootten. Ihe ship Bombay was 118 days on the voyage and when within a few days' sail of Auckland, on the Bth March 1865, encountered a terrific gale and had the masts and bowspit blown away. She drifted at the mercy of the waves for a day and was eventually sighted and towed into Auckland harbour by the warsloop "Constance." There were 500 passengers on board the i. j} om bay " and those still alive speak in high terms of the excellent concerts which were held regularly during the trip, until the eventful " Bth March " when they sailed into the teeth of a hurricane. Mrs Fahey, Messrs J. Sturgeon and C. Wootten are the only settlors who still remain on the 10 acres originally given them bv the Government. A. Harvest liome Festival was ■elebrated in the Methodist Church nn Sunday week, when the church " 8 prettily decorated by the ladies. The meeting of the Maungata«hiri Valley Koad Board, which as to hav been held at Bombay on Saturday last, had to be postponed, —*•"
