MERCER.

On Tuesday last Mr Clement Wragge gave a very interesting lecture un astronomy and radium in the Mercer Town Hall to a rather small but very interested audiecce. The annual meeting of the Mercer Kegatta Association, adjourned from tbe previous Saturday, was held in the Rowing Club's Hall on Wednesday evening last. It was resolved lo merge the Regatta Association into the Rowing Club. The annual Mercer Regatta held on Anniversary Day, 29th January, will therefore this season be run under tbe auspices of the Mercer Rowing Club. The regatta promises to be quite the usual success. The general election went otf quietly here on Thursday last. Messrs Tribe and Hallett were in charge of the poll and Messn Vincent (Ngaruawahia) and (J. Morgon (Mercer) made efficient scrutineers.

Un Friday afternoon and evening the bazaar held by the Mercer Ladies' Guild, in aid of tbe funds for Presbyterian and Anglican Churches, attracted a very large crowd. Ihe Town Hall was most tastefully decorated, and the decorations and particularly the work exhibited and sold were exceedingly good. The cushions and tancywork received much respectful attention, and the Christmas trees more than delighted tbe children. Mr M. Roose made a splendid Father Christmas. The following were in charge of the stalls:—Mrs Blanch and Miss Wright, sweets stall; flowers and produce, Misses P. Keats and M. Roose; fancywork, Misses Tribe and Clifford; plain sewing, Mesdames Landon and Selwood; tea, Mrs Valentine and Miss Neilson; guessing competition, Mesdames Wragg and Levis; fish pond, Mesdames Soppett and Bush; Christmas Tree, Mrs Pugh and Mr M. Roose; naildriving, Messrs Ansell and Tribe. About £4O was taken. Miss E. Wright worked assiduously as secretary and greatly assisted in the success of the bazaar.
