THE RAGLAN ELECTORATE.
Mr Thompson at Puni.
On Tuesday evening Mr W. D. Thompson, Liberal candidate for Kaglan, addrestied a large and enthusiastc meeting of electors in the Carlton Hall, Puni. Mr D. Hill occupied the chair.
referring aporovingly to the statesmanship of Sir Joseph Ward in introducing compulsory training and practically committing New Zealand to build one or more Dreadnoughts for the Homeland before his action could be mide a party question. Mr Thompson scathingly criticised the system of misrepresentation and very unfair political tactics which, he claimed, assisted the Reformers to obtain office.
While the candidate wai pointing out the indebtedness uf the small farmers to Sir Joseph Ward for bis epoch creating system of Stall advances, tome of the audience intruded their opinions on tho meeting in reference to Mr Bollard's chances of being returned member for the electorate. Ah a practical farmer Mr Thompson pointed to the very great need for an effective increase in the graduated land tax in order that New Zealand might become a land of email farmers and not land monopolists.-A vote of thanks to Mr Thompson for his instructive address was moved by Mr J. Uogers, and seconded by Mr Salisbury. After being carried bv acclamation, a vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.
