THE BELGIUM FUND.
We are glad to re that lh? Pukekohe Patriotic Committee ara to do something practical with regard to raising funds to h lp the dhtri9-:ed people of Brave Belgium. It must be rememb:ted that if it fad not been for (he splendid and heroic defence which Belgium made Great Britain to-day would probably have been in a position of the utmost peril. Belgium has tome the Cross which possibly meant national salvation for us. At a meeting of the local committee on Tuesday it was unanimouMy agreed to vote the remaining monies from the Pukekohe Patriotic Fund to the Belgium Fund. This will amount, roughly, to £l7. We hava to acknowledge donations from Messrs A. B. Barter and C. Shipherd, of £5 each, which we have had pleasure in handing to the 'lown Chrk, as treasurer of the fund. The Mayor is convening a meeting of citizens for Monday riijhr, to consider suggestions for the raising of a fund of at least £SO. In view of the character of the call this trifli.ig sum Bfcould be easily realised. To date the donations arc £. Pukekohe Patriotic I'und 17 A. B. Barter 5 C. Shipherd 5 J. B. Rowe 1 J. Russell 1
