" We nothing extenuate, nor set down might in malice."
Si hie< t to the satisfactory completion of agreements that have boen entered upon, the financial interest of the present proprietor.*, of the "Times" will cease with the publication of this issu«. Wi'h very much regret, therefore, we take this last opportunity of sincerely thanking the people of this district for their generous support duiing the past two years and nine months, and to bid them a hent-searching Goodbye. When we establishel the " Pukekohe and Waiuku Times " there were very few who belioved it possible to make a financial success of the enterprise, but from all ilie heartier eucourageni°nt was nevertheless extended t • us. We cauie to this field with the full and settled intention of casting in our lot with the people here, permanently. C.rciunstances have ordained otherwise. The pastoral picturesqueness of the district has always appealed to us and we never lire of singing the praises of its productivity. Its mauy good features have been like s> many ivy branches eutwiuiug themselves about our heart, and we suffer as tho (it gers of fate relentlessly sov»r tho sweot assodatious. Every newspaper—and particularly every country newspaper—lns its differences with various sretious of the community at different times. Wo have had ours. But whenever difficulties arose we followed the Ligli* as we saw it, featlessly and unafraid, and now that the time has come for us to extinguish our little candle we do it in tho hope and belief that nothing but mutual good-will will regain. In thanking all those who gave us their business support we must not forget our agents and correspondents who have done such excellent and often solf-3aerificing work for us. We have had very few changes in our mechanical staff since the busiuess became settled and we want to thankfully acknowledge their capability, the conscientious discharge of their duties and their loyalty. To the public men of the district wo owe a big debt of gratitude for their co-operation and assistance. As the business grows we believe the " Times" to be capable of doing much bigger and better service for tho wide area embraced in its sphere of influence than has so far b°en possible. We hand the reins to our successors with our best wishes for tho future of themselves and of the " Time*," but tears touch the heart as the pen halts over these last lines—the writing of which cuts the journalistic ties which have united us with many estimable people throughout this magnificeut district.
