PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
A Special Meeting. A special meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held on Monday, 19th, to consider the roadi and ways and means. The chairman (Mr Willis) suggested first taking in hand the question of metal, but was interrupted by Mr Cole, who would not bear of any other proposal untjl the Board had put aside at least £IOO for improving and kerbing Great South road from the hotel to the Presbyterian church. The chairman explained that roads would be taken after "metal" had been fixed, and it was then carried to call for tenders for 60 yarda clean shingle or broken metal for Dominion road, and 60 yards clean shingle for Ranfurly roafl, work to be finished before ths end of December, 1914. Also to call tenders for 300 yards machinebroken metal, 2A inches, to be carted and placed on road wherever required. Thin woik to be completed before end of February, 1916. Mr Campbell wanted Wairoa road attended to, but as funds are low and rates are coming in slowly, the Board decided to call only f r tenders to complete footpaths and along Mr Matheson's property as far 89 the stuff from the reserve would go. The residents near and public who use King Edward street have long been promised that it would be "civilised," and tenders are called lo have this thoroughfare graded and formed, also to be provided with footpaths. This also refers to the cross road called Chapel street. it means will allow it, King Edward street is to be taken in hand also, on the other side of ; Onslow road as far as Victoria | street west. Arawa street will be rewarded for 1 patiently waiting these many years, and is now to be formed and graded and provided with footpaths. Mr Cole again objected to any work being done until funds were set aside for fixing and wood kerbing footpaths from Court-house to tha Scotch church, and from Willis Bros', corner to Stokes and Earl's. A proposal was carried to have Broadway ketbed and channelled with stone and copcrete from Stokes and Earl's to Willis Bros', corner and that tenders be called forthwith. To this Mr Cole objected and gave an emphatic no, nmarking: "Mr Secretary, plcajc have my No in the minutes. 4' A resolution wan then put and carried, that as soon as funds *vill allow all footpaths in the centre of the township be attended to. Mr Stewart moved that a longmade promise be carried out and tenders be called to form and grade the road leading to Mrs Russell's property. I'bis was carried, but Mr Colo again gave an emphatic "No," to landers being called, and again spoke in favour of having Great South road footpaths first improved. Mr Jones gave notice that at the next meeting he intended to propose that the Board be lormcd into a Works and Roads Committed and a Finance Committee. As there were seven members now on the Board this arrangement could be carried nut. We understand that on Friday Mr Cole suit in his resignation as a member of the Board.
