DANCE

One uf t.lio most succossful dunces held in Mercer this year was tint local Territorials dance which tojk place in the Mercer town hall on Friday. The hall was boautifully decoratod for tho occasion with nikaus, ferns and (lugs, with the national (lags ol tlio Allied Forces predominating. The music was all that could bo desired and was suppi iod liy tho Misses Boiosford, of Auckland, Punctually at o'clock Lieutenant Ansoll v O.C.) and Miss Uaynos, of Auckland, led tho grand march, at tho conclusion of which tho guests stood and sang tho National Anthem. Dancing was kept up till tho small hours of tho morning. Sorgt. Seymour and Lieut. Ansoll mado olliciont M's.<\ Extras were played liy Mrs llush and Miss Noilton.

During the evening sjngs were supplied by Messrs J. Vospor, S. K. Guernoy, E. Stanton and S. Seymour.

ACCIDENT. A young man named I'. Sowerby was unfortunate in getting Ins hand severely cut whilo at Work in the sawmill 011 Thursday last. Dr Cheestnun rendered medical aid and ordered the patient's removal to the hospital. LAND CHANGING HANDS.

Several farms have ohanged hands in our district of late.

Mr Hallett has bought Mr Coultas' island of 200 acres also the whole of the dairy herd of *0 cous, complete milking plant and separator, and all fanning implements as a going concern. For four days of last week half-a-ton of cream left this farm for the Mercer butter factory. M r Soli wood has disposed of part of his farm at the bluff and has bought a part of Mr C. batidon's farm.

OFF TO WAIPIPI. Mr K. C. Martin, who has lived in Mercer off and on for the past 40 years, has sold out his holding here and has left for Waipipi. Mr Martin lias purchased 04 acres near the Waipipi cemetery, a property formerly owned by Mr Wallace. Mr Martin lias taken an active part in local public life, and was first a member of the Mercer Road Board in 1871. Mr Martin was chair* man of the lioard for two years.
