The Engineer's Rerort
At yesiei<iay'« met ting of the Franklin County Council the engineer (Mr McArthur) reported as follows:
BOMBAY DEVIATION. Durirg the month the engineering survey of the above deviation has been completed, the t tal distance being 4 miles 28 chain*. A Rord giade has been obtained on the Rama Kama .'id?. I found it irrpossible, however, to find a better grade than the lower trrti'n of the prist i<t io;d en IVkcn) Hi 1. At next meeting cf jour Council I will furnish an estimate of erst of construction and the approximate area of lard required to be taken from the dill'crent t;roperties along the route. WAIUK U-A WBITU ROAD.
The proposed new road as reported on previously not suiting ell settlers interested I tried other routes, srd after s me trouble decided that the line of road as first located and for which an estimate of the cost of construction has been furnished was the best and most suitable for a road.
WAIUKL'-PUKEKOHE ROAD. Repairs have been made to the Waitargi hill gs directed by yuur Council; the only metal available for the purpose beirg at Waiuku. The hi'l at present is in fairly good order.
That portion of road between the borough boundary ard Mauku tiding boundary, a lergth of about one mil?, is being temporarily repaired, the tunda available being at present only sufficient to fill in the worst holes with metsl. At eorre future date this lergth of road will require to be reformed, the present formation in places being very flat. WALKER'S ROAD, HI'NUA.
In company with Cr Campbell I inspected this road and arrangements were msd»j for the expcnditure of £l2. This v. ill do all work necessary for the pre-ent. Arrangements were also made to lay out works on the lower end of Junes' and Walker's road, there being a sum included for this purpose in the Hunua loan for ridirg roa^s. Inspection was of roads in the Drury and Merc-rr ridings in company with members for Eame. Althorgh there are works in these and othir ridings which require to be carried out it is impossible Bt present to put them in hand owing to the shortage of mosey.
