POPULAR CONCERT
Considerable interest is being taken in Wednesday's concert and a big house is anticipated. A splendid programme lias been arranged to wliicTi a number of Auckland artists are contributing. The Tuakau Brass Band will also be in attendance. During the inteivol it has been arranged to. draw the Tuakau Tennis Club Art Union got up to augment club funds. The prizes consist of 18 beautiful oil paintings all of which are real woiks of art. PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the above League was held on Monday evening there being a large attendance. Buckland-Tuakau Bridge Sites. A wire was tabled from the District Engineer in response to the League's protest regarding the removal of bridge piles ou old Buckland-Tuakau railway line. The reply (addressed to tho secretary, Mr H. Tapper was worded as follows : " Regret this cannot be done ; means loss to Department. Instructions are to have work done." The League chairman, Mr D. Fulton, explained that tho matter was still in the hands of the County Chairman and that negotiations were still taking place. TTo believed that arrangements had been mado with the Government valuator to go over the line, with tho county representative- next week. It was said that the engineering difficulties in connection with the main South road over Razorback were so groat that it was probable that the county would consider taking over tho Bucklan lTuakau arid Whangarata-Pokono railway deviation and make same tho Main South Road. Extra Pillar Boxco. Satisfaction was ox[>ressod by League member- at the fait that pu st office authorities had placed jallar boxes at Harrisville School, and at the corner of Bollard and Whangarata Roads as rcjuostod. Discussion took jtlai-u as to whether tho League s-lionld nominate ;i ticket )'"r tho forthcoming Town jjoard eli ctions. A motion to this eflect was put and carried by a largo majority. Nominations were then r"eeived, 11 members hrintr propusod. A ballot resulted in tho following ticket, bojn',r decided upou, votes being recorded in the following order;— Jumes l'irrit, Dynes Fulton, C'apt. p y der, 11. Craig, H. B. Freo, Hugh

We gather that a number of other candidates are in the field, among the probables being Messrs F. Hyde, W. J. Deeble, Bartley, Geraghty, Bernard MeGahan and J. J. lironigool.
