Entries for the Amateur Competitions are still being handed to Mr I Coady. The items are varied and the public m9y expect a novel and interesting entertainment at the Premier Hall to-morrow night.' j On Friday a man named Arthur ! Young, who is charged with the theft of a watch near Giabome, was | arrested in Pukekohe by Constable i Watson. He was brouiiht before Mr ! F. Perkins, J.P., and remanded to Gisbornc. On Friday morning, at Waiuku, a very nasty and painful accident happened to Mr Harry King, chemist. Mr King was on his way to business from his home at Kariotahi, when hia horse stumblrd, ; throning him with much force on I to the metalled road. Mr King was j badly Lruised and cut about the | face and hands. His tongue was ! cut through, and four of his front | teeth loosened. The annual "At Home'' given by | the Loyal Pukekohe Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., in the Oddfellow*' hall on ; Friday night, proved a most enjoy* i able affair, over thirty couples being present. Excellent dance music was ; provided by Miss Pulleng (piano' ; aud Mrs Andrew (violin;, extras I being played by Miss's O'Connor I and Milne. Messrs G. Hovey and I W. S. Baird efficient M.'sC. j The supper was provided tv Messrs F. Perkins and Co. On Monday morning William i Robinson, of Patumahce, who had been arrested last week on a charge ! of breakirg and entering the dwelling of a neighbour, J. McCann, i and stealing therefrom h cheque of i £22, and on a further charge ot i forging an endorsement on the | cirque, appeared betore Messrs C. | K. Lawrie and p . Perkins, J.'eP., at j the Pukekohe Court. Accused, who J was represent d by Mr Towle, I pleaded guilty and was rematdul for ! sentence to the Supreme Court at I Auckland, bail being allowed in the j sum of £SO on his own recognisance and a surety of £SU on each charge. The Pukekohe Harriers had a veiy successful run on Saturday. The course, over 3 miles, was from the Premier Hall across some ait iff country which was a good to it for the wind and endurance of the runners. Nine members took part in the run, which was lor three medals, and the order of the finishing was as follows:—W. McGlynn, 20secs, 19min 45secs, 1; P. Smith, 30sccs, 19min 40aecs, 2; H. Cullinger, scratch, I'.tmin 35secs, 3. Meiers W. Wright and A. Tawse acted ha timekeepers, and Mr Coady rendered valuable assistance. On Saturday afterncon a roat:h was played between the Pukekohe Ladies' Hockey Club ard a men's team. The men wore skirts and whilst a few managed the unwonted impediment to their freedom of stride with more or less grace. I there were those who appeared to find the skirts a perpetual obstacle to I their prugrcss. There were many amusing incidents and collisions during the course ot the game, but both teams appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Goal 9 were | scored for the girls, who won the match by 2 goals to I, by Misses Maxwell and Iriseie Silkey, and for the men by P. Rowe. Mr H. Thornton relercul.
