TUAKAU.
PERSONAL. The friends of Mr Adam Madill will be glad to hear that he is making a satisfactory recovery after a very serious operation to his ear. Mr J. J. Madill is also in the hospital as the result of a recent accident. I regrat to report that so far the doctors in attendance have been unable to set the ankle. The break occurred so near the ankle bone that there is a difficulty in bringing the broken parts together. TUAKAU BRASS BAND. The band played a number of selections in the Domain on Sunday and received an appreciative hearing by a considerable number of people. The conductor's baton was held by Mr Hall, who has undertaken to coach members. The music provided on Sunday indicated that the band have improved vastly since their last public performance. Much credit is due to the retiring bandmaster, Mr Mensforth, who had patiently instructed members for many moutns. Mr Mensforth'B work is the more commendable because he was only temporarily resident here. During his 'stay our late bandmaster made many friends, and local bandsmen and many residents hope that be will yet decide to remain here permanently.
