MAUNGATAWHIRI RATE PAYERB' MEEtING.
The adjourned annual meeting of the ratepayers in the Maungatawhiri road district was held at the Board's office, Razorback, on Saturday, 6th June, Mr W. fl. P. Evbdb in the chair.
The balance sheet for the year ended 31st March, 1914, which had been duly auditei and certified correct, was read by the clerk, Mr W. K. Ccrnthwaite. Receipts irom all sources including balance Ist April, 1913, was £256 28 2d and expenditure £l3B 11a lid, leaving a credit balance of £ll7 10s 3d, and rates recoverable £lB 3s 7d, making total credit balance of £135 13s 10\ with liabilities of £9B 6s 3d for works let and other liabilities. On the motion of Mr Lees, seconded by Mr Coombe, the balance sheet was adopted as read. MAUNGATAWHIRI ROAD BOARD.
The Board held their first meeting immediately after the annusl meeting, and re-elected Mr J. G. Rutherford chairman, and Mr W. K. Cornthwaite clerk and treasurer. A letter was r a ad from the Minister of Railways re warning boards at railway crossings. The Department was willing to erect the warning boards if the local bodies would undertake the upkeep of them after. -As there was only onejerossi-g in this Board's district requiring such warning board, that at Pokeni on the Great South road, and that road now being a county road, it was resolved to leave it for the County Council to decide. EUCHRE PARTY.
On Thursday night, June 4th, the fortnightly euchre patty and dance was held in tha Bombay ball and was well attended. The first prizes fell to Miss E. Sbanahan and Mr G. P. Cooper. A very pleasant little dance was held after, Mr K. Sbanahan supplying the music WORKING BEE.
On Friday and Saturday a working bee was held at the hall by the directors, shareholders and 2 cr 3 non-shareholders to improve the hall ground and the approaches. The ground has been cleared up, the approaches from the Bombay hall tilled in, and path formed to main entrance door and aide door, and a new picket fence and gates erected along the front, and when painted 'will make the ectrance to the hall look very neat. Mrs A. French piovided lunch, and Mrs F. L. Webster afternoon tea. PAPARATA ROAD HOARD.
On Saturday evening the Paparata Road Board held their ordinary monthly meeting in the Bombay Hall, members present Messrs Thomas (chairman), G. Wootten, W. H. Anderton, A. Best, G. Ross and the clerk (Mr F. J. Wootten). For the fencing on Newham and Turvey road no tetder was received. For the drain and formation, etc., in Happy Valley, one tender was received, J. Turvey and E. Broderick, £250. As this was £IOO more than the grant for the work, it was decided to ask the Public Works Department if they would sanction a portion of the wurk being done, and if so, to call lenders for next meetirg at per chain. * lhe Board resolved to make application for a grant of £l5O for the Bouibay-Maketu road and £l5O for the Happy Valley-Paparimu road. The clerk was instructed to take proceedings to recover all rates unpaid by 30th June. Accounts amounting to £2O 18s 9d were passed for payment.
