THE RIDING BOUNDARIES.

Proceedings Out of Order. At Thursday's meeting of the Franklin County Council the question of riding boundaries again cropped up. INTO TWO HIDINGS. Cr Fulton moved, That Pukokohe riding be divlced into two ridings, to be known as Pukekohe East and Pukekohe West, the alteration to take effect from November next. He thought this would be in the best interest of the district as each part would then have its own represents, tive. Cr Wilcox said he would second the motion with pleasure. Although they had tried to leave the riding better than they had found it he thought that perhaps greater justice would be done to the west under the new arrangement.

It w;n stated that with some lit Mo' alterations the old road district boundaries would be the new county ridiug boundaries. The motion was carried. INTO THE MELTING POT.

Cr Flanagan moved, That the whole proceedings io connection with the alteration of boundaries be submitted to the county solicitor. He was considerably surprised and astonished when he heard that the Boundary Committee and the Council bad Bgain altered the riding boundaries from what they had decided upon in March. He was surprised that this should have been done during his absence at the April meeting and he thought the Council had gone outside its powers. Mr Hanna said the position was pret'y clear that the only means of altering the ridings or boundaries was by Bpecial order. The alteration could not bo legally made at the April meeting without rescinding what had hpen done in March. The chairman: Apparently the whole proceedings were irregular. Cr Campbell moved, That thu two resolutions of March 19th aid April sth be rescind d and that a apccial meeting of the Council be held at 2 o'clock on the next regular meeting day of the Council to confirm the report of the Boundary Committee. This was seconded by Cr Fulton and carried.
