FARMERS' UNION MEETING. On Friday evening, May Bth, Mr A . Schmitt, fltcretary of the Auckland Provincial Farmers' Union, in company wilh Mr A. A. Ro«s, onn of the directors of the Association, paid a visit to Buckland and gave an address in the hall. Although the meeting was open to all farmers only members uf the Union availed themselves of the opportunity of hearing the address. Mr Schmitt gave a spirited address and dealt with Trading Association matters principally. It commenced some four years ago with a stair of unc man (Mr Schmitt as manager, secretary, treasurer and working staff), and it now had a staff of twenty four hamU and during the year just past had done a turnover of ninety thousand point's sterling. The membership was increasing at the rate of forty per month. Mr A. A. Roes in his speech congratulated the Buckland branch ot the Farmers' Union on the manner in which it had kept going from i!s inception, for while other branches had been formed and died out, and had had to be renovated, the buckland branch had kept steadily going ahead He was afraid people did not fully recognise or appreciate the hard work Mr Schmit had done both for the Farmers' Union and the Trading Association, but it was pleasing to know that both of these bodies were in such a sound and nourishing condition.

Numerous questions were, asked by those present, all of which were answered by Mr Schmitt to the satisfaction ol' the questioners. At the conclusion of the meeting; a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Messrs Schmitt and Kobs. A vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr Neal, was ado carried by acclamation. The next meeting of the Buckland brunch will be held on Saturday evening, May 10th, at 7.30.
