TUAKAU.
WORKING BEE.
Some twenty "busy bees" assembled at the Manse on Wednesday with paint pot?, brushes and other paraphernalia to paint all buildings and generally improve the property lately acquired by the Tuakau charge. The "king bee," Mr H. Woodbridge. kindly gav3 his services gratis (although particularly busy constructing other hives). He took charge of tha work and marshalled his forces to good purpose. All the paint brushes available were vigorously applied to the manse. Other willing hands began to erect a gig shed and still others to erect a fence between the house property and the adjoining paddock. Many bees made lizht work. The whole of the work undertaken will be completed-weather permitting—next Wednesday, when the busy bees have arranged to "swarm again". It might be mentioned here that members of the hive who habitually extract honey and other good things as far afield as Onewhero were present in good force and deserve special mention for their enthusiasm. Mrs Butterworth, together with a ladies' committee, provided excellent refreshments. LIVE STOCK RETURNS.
In conversation with Mr W. Barnaby on Tuesday—"pig day"—l gathered that he had that day put 100 pigs through his hands. The Railway Department had also a particularly busy day with cattle and sheep. From unofficial sources I gather that stock returns from Tuakau have trebled in 12 months. It is little wonder that growers continually comment on the fact that luakau is much behind the times in the matter of stock sales. THE LYRIC FOUR.
Tuakau should be in a vetv gay mood on Monday next, on which date the talented Lyric Four and other artists are billej to appear. The names of Alan McElwain, W. 'Aspenall, H. Blakeley and J. W. Ryan are sufficient guarantee for a unique performance, An entertainment rich in harmony and refined Hi humour is assured. Plan of a limited number of reserved chairs will be opened at Free Bros, on Saturday.
