OTAUA.
PLAIN AND FANCY BALL. A plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Otaua hall on Wedneeday <* evening, April Bth. 'though the weather was bad about thirty couples turned up, a large number cf whom were iin fane/dres?. The committee had offered prizes for the hest fancy costumes and owing to the difficulty of getting competent judges it was agreed to decide by ballot. Among the ladies Miss Hickey, "Mexican Cow Girl," was first and Miss Muir, "Folly," was second. The first prize for gentlemen went to Mr J. Wattam, "Clown," and Mr L. Mellsop, "Mr Pickwick," second.
