OUR RHODES SCHOLAR. Mr W. M. Jones, B.Sc., Rhodes scholar for 1913, has just received the intimation that he has successful lv passed the examination for M.Sc., with first-class honours, and has also won the Cook prize of bsoks, to the value cf ten guineas, for brilliancy in mathematics. EAST STREET. At the request of some of the ratepayers the Town Board has taken steps to open up the southern end of East street. The upkeep oi this road will add a little more to the overburdened shoulders of the Board. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday evening, the Rev. W. C. Wood in the chair.
The Eecietary -reported that live sanitary cylinders had been obtained for the use of the school at a cost of £7. No action was taken In reply to a circular from the Board with reference to the earlier opening of the school, the committee being of opinion that the present hours are the most suitable. \ Much satisfaction was expressed at the improvements carried out at the school. BOWLING. Trie Otahuhu Rowling Club was represented on the heal green last Saturday by two rinks. In the No. 1 rink the contest was very keen, the home team winning by 25 points to 17.
