The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report that at the sale of Mr Joseph Flanagan's Drury properties there was a very good attendance of the public. Dissatisfaction is expressed by the Rama Rama branch of the Farmers' Union in regard to the weighing of trucks of farm produce by the railway authorities. Complaint has been made to the Auckland provincial secretary that there is a considerable difference in a truck of produce weighed on the railway bridge and the same produce weighed over the town bridges, and that merchants would not accept the Government weights. It is also stated by the secretary of the Rama Rama branch that the trucks when being weighed were mot uncoupled, and this would be bound to account for a considerable difference in weight. The branch intends to bring this matter before the Prime Minister when a deputation waits upon him shortly in connection with the shopping of trains at Runciman.
Some months back the Auckland Education Board, prompted by the Pukekobe School committee, were successful in having the old defence ground adjoining the school transferred to its control. It would now appear that although the Defence Department have au acre of ground which is intended, it i 8 "understood, as a site for a drill hall, they have no ground of their own on which to carry out exercises. At the meeting of the Pukekohe School Committee 011 Monday night a letter was received from Area Sergeant-Major Hatt applying for the use of the ground for half and whole day parades. Messrs Lawrie, Patterson, Perkins and Cargill were appointed a sub-committee to confer with Sergeant-Major Hatt. The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe School Committee was held on Monday night, there being present: —Messrs Pilkington (in the chair), Patterson, Perkins, Daysh, Hindman and Cargill. The secretary reported that the Education Board had accepted the tender uf J. Hewson for the erection of a fence, formation of footpath and other improvements at the teacher's residence. He (the secretary) had had the fence around the garden fixed up. It was decided to hold the annual picnic, Messrs Pilkington, Patterson and the teachers to be a committee to make arrangements. It was suggested that the picnic be held on Friday, December 19th.
