COUNTY CONTRACTS.

The Engineer's Proposals. At Wednesday's meeting of the Franklin County Council, the report of the eogineer (Mr McArthur) was read ai follows: "Since taking up my duties as your engineer I liave visited most parts of the county, and have now a fair idea of the works to be carried out. 41 For consideration I lay before your Council to-day plans of proposed works as follows: " Contract No. I.—For the supply and erection of al2 foot span bridge in Australian hardwood, with 22 chains of road formation, Mangatangi, Hunua riding. " Contract No. 2.—For forming and culverting three portions of the Mangatangi road, Hunua riding, total length 48 chains. "Contract No. 3.—For forming and culverting 21.V chains of the Otau to Maiora road, Waipipi riding. "Contract No. 4.-—For forming and culverting 60 chains of the Whiri Whiii road, Waipipi riding. I would suggest that these contracts, together with two contracts for forming portions of the Purapura road, Pukekohe West road district, the engineering survey for which is now in progress, be advertised for contract, tenders returnable at a meeting to be held on 22nd December. " Bridges, Waiuku-Druiv road.— Having inspected these bridges together with your chairman and Cr Henry, I find that they are in fairly good order, and quite safe for traffic, with the exception of the bridge known as McPherson's bridge, which requires renewing, but is safe for light traffic. I would suggest that a notice be posted limiting the loads to a certain tonnage. I have ordered planks to replace portion of the decking." The chairman, Crs Lyons, Fulton and Campbell were appointed a committee to receive tenders and act. The chairman explained that the Pukekohe West Road Board wished the Council to take over the grant for expenditure on the Purapura road. The Council agreed to this. The report was adopted.
