LAND VALUES.
Of Fifty Years Ago. Land values are very different now to what they were fifty years ago. On November 24th, 1863, it was reported:—Yesterday afternoon a quantity of general country land, situated at Papakura, Buakura, Parahaki, Kaukapakapa, Omaha, and Buarangi, was offered for sale at the Waste Lands Office, Shortland street, at the upset price of 10s per acre. Three lots in the parish of Papakura, containing 134, 94 and 108 acres, realised £97, £SO and £l5O respectively. The only allotment in Waiau offered was one of 35 acres, which sold for £24. Of these lots which realised over the upset price were two in Parahaki, one of 140 and one of 159 acres, which fetched £B4 and £BO. In the parish of Kaukapakapa, 10 allotments exceeded the upset price, averaging between 17 and 18 shillings per acre. In the parish of Omaha, 10 lots also reached a slight advance over the upset price.
