OTAUA.

A SOCIAL EVENING. A very pleasant evening was spent in the hall on Wednesday last, when a social was held for the purpose of making a presentation to our local postmistress, Miss Denize, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mr Claude Motion made the presentation—a silver tea and coffee service —and spoke of the good feeling which had always existed between the recipient and the Otaua people and on behalf of the latter wished her every happiness in her new life. Mr Oscar Denize suitably responded for his sister. Dancing was kept up till a late hour. DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Otaua Drainage Board was held in the hall on Thursday, November 20th.

Accounts totalling about were passed for payment.

Considerable discussion ensued as to whether the 'Joard should ergage two permanent men to attend to the creeks and drain?, but nothing was decided upcu. Mr West was appointed to confer with Messrs Russell ard Campbell and try and arrange a settlement with Mr Hanna in connection with the costs of the appeals againet the classification.
