Meeting of Council

A meeting ot the Council of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce was held oi Monday night; present— Messrs Webster, TownsoD, Sutton, Perkins, Lusher and .Pilkingtor. A letter was received from Mr B. H. Andrew resigning his position as secretary on account -of pressure of business.—The resignation was receved with regret, and it was decided to place on record an appreciation of the gocd setvices which Mr Andrew had rendered to the Chamber.—Mr Pilkington was requested to act as secretary in the meantime and consented 10 do eo. He stated, however, that to did not think ho could accept the position permanently. A further letter was received from tho Minister for Railways again declining to run a Sunday milk train from Pukekohe 10 Auckland. The previous reasons for the refusal were repeated, and it was raid that 4000 gallons would now be required in order that the train would pay by reason of tho increased cost of runcing the trains.—Having clone all they felt they could do tho Chamber decided to drop the matter. Some timo ago the Chamber spurred up the department with regard to the crosibirg at the railway station, from the end of the overhead bridge to the entrance from Manukau road. A letter from tho Minister intimated that this crossing had now been completed. The letter which the Mayor had despatched to the Prime Minister with respect to the cutting cut of Pukekohe as a stopping place for the Rotorua expires twin was read.—lt was decided to support the application that the Rotorua train should again stop hare, and tnat cne of the Wellington expresses should stop here also.

A memorial was also received from the Mayor, to ue ser.t to the Prime Minister, with regard to the unfairness to the district between Mercer anj Drury in r, t being able to get the advantage of suburban railway fares after entering the suburban area.-The Chamber cordially agreed to support the memorial. The potato grading rules, as drawn up bv the committee, wtre adopted. The question of the torougb charge for waier, in connection with the minimum charge that is mad?, was brought up, but the Chamber decided that this was a matter upon which consumers ought to approach the Borougti Council direct.
