TUAKAU BA"ND. The Tnakau brass Band held their weekly practice in the literary hall on Wednesday night last, fifteen members with instruments taking part. Others intend joining at an early dtte, arid it is to be hoped that still more young men will take an interest in and associate themselves with the band. FOOTBALL.
The Raglan Rugby football team met tbe Pnkekohe team at Tuakau on Saturday last. Play was very dull on account of the rain making the field very slippery. The scores were Pukekvhe 3, Raglan nil. THE POST OFFICE.
The new post office is Hearing completion, and the staff hope to be in their new building in a week or so. BENEFIT CONCERT.
The Literary and Social Club intend holding a Benefit Concert on Thursday next, 7th July, in aid of Mr A. Stokes and family. Mr Stokes is at present very ill in ths Auckland hospital. THE TOWN BOARD. Matters in connection with the proposed Town Board are hung up. Ths League wrote to the Prime Minister asking him if he cculd honor Tuakau by opening the post office. It was proposed taking

There was a splendid congregation at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening, when the Rev. Butterwoith was the officiating minister. It may also be noted that Mr W. T. Stanton, who has taken up the duties until recently carried cut by Mrs Thomson, nee Miss Madill, presided at the organ for the fir3t time, THE LEAGUE.
Who said the Lsagua was dead? That institution gave picoi last week that it was very far from being in a moribund condition by securing donations from its members to lbs extent of over £lO to defray the expenses of two representatives to vHit Welingion. The matters they were going to bring under the Prime Minister's notice were an application to the Government to hand over the route of ifce old railway line to be used as a road to Buckland, and to endeavour to get a grant placed on the Estimates for the widsniog and metalling of River road. But unfortunately at the last moment twu the gentlemen who were going found themselves unable (o make the trip. Anyway the promptness with which tbe d-jnations were forthcoming shows that the League is very far from being the sleepy and selfish body that some of its opponents would wish people to believe.
SMOKE CONCERT. On Friday night a smoke concert was tendered to Mr C. Pent, who for some considerable time hes been employed at ths local railway station, and has now been transferred to Westfield, He was presented with a fine travelling rug by Mr Sentch. en behalf of the recipient's frierds. Mr Excell was chairman and Mr L. Stevenson presided at the piano. Sorgs were rendered by Messrs Elliott, L. Stevenson, Church, Peppleton, L. Bows, W. Smith, S. Smith, C. Pont, while Mr French entertained with soma sleight of hand flicks. The toast list included "Our Guests," by Mr Ryan, responded to by Mr G. O'Connor; "Railway and Railway Employees" (Vlr Exc2ll-Me?srs Sentch and W. Nisbet); "The Ladies" (Mr Sentch Messrs Lapwood. Fitzgerald and McGi.ire); "The Musicians" (Mr F. McGuire Mr J.. Stevenson); "N.Z.D.A." (Mr Sentch Mr Litanovitch); "Sports" (Mr F. McGuire—Messrs W. Deeble and S. Collins). The whole function was most successful, and added in a general way to the gaiety and
