PUNI.

THE TENNIS SOCIAL Tha social held in the Schoolroom on Friday night under the auspices of the Puni Lawn Tennis Club wag a conspicuous success. There were something like 100 present, and of that number about half set themselves down to cards while the others began the evening with dancing. The main schoolroom was nicely decorated and the floor was carefully prepared, Ttie music was supplied by Miss Pulleng. If an excellent supper be added to the foregoing elements of enjoyment the sum of the night's entertainment will be understood. Mr J. Wright played a couple of waltz extras which were heartily enjoyed. In the card room plav proceeded merrily, sixteen games being contested. The prizes, donated by the Club, were very handsome. By the request of the management they were presented to the winners by Mr R. J. Eames. Mrs Black secuxed a fine biscuit barrel as a result of winning twelve games, and Mr Penfold received a well-appointed set of hair brushes, etc., as the winner of the men's section. The Misses Pollock decided to divide the second prize for the ladies, a pair of silver-myunted scent bottles. Mr J. Black, who carried off second prize in the men's division, was awarded an acceptable inkstand. Mr Edgar Smith and Mrs Payne won the nonsense prizes—a jack-in-the-box and a wooden spoon respectively. A solo by Mrs H. E. Smith and a whistling solo filled a pleasant interval.

The committee, the ladies wuo supplied the bounteous refreshments, and the secretary (Mr Theyers) are to ba congratulated upon the pronounced success of the function. There were so many good things left over that it was decided to entertain the children at the school on Saturday afternoon, and the picnic was held in brilliant weather.
