MASONIC.
Lodge Papakura. No. -56, held its installation and investiture of officers on Tuecday evening. W. Bro. J. T Stembridge acted as Installing Master, and though it was not intended this year to make a big function of it the attendance was very good. Bros. Page, Hyanison, Jamioson, Mears and McLennan assisted in the ceremonies; The officers for the year are:—W.M. Bro. D. W. Jones; S.W., Bro' RerJ; J.vV., Bro McLean; Chap lain, Bro. von Sturmer; TreasurerBro. Hansch; Secretary, Bro. Willis, S.D., Bro. Mack; J. 1),, Bto. Bond; 1.0., Bro. Busby; Tyle', Bra; Shova. Aft:r the meeticg a plea3ant hour was spent in the refectory.
FARMERS' UNION
On Wednesday evening a meeting of the Farmers' Union wa3 held in the Orange Hall. Mr E. D. McLennan occupied the chair. Mr Beddoe, Canadian Commissioner of Trad?, was present, and delivered a very interesting and instructive address on the present trade facilities with Canada, showing by statistics how the trade had increased during the last few year?, hut which was still capable of great expansion. Suggestions were made how tu improve the pres-nt relations, and the farmers presrnt were strongly urged to watch carefully the changes proposed to be made when the tariff revision takes place next session. At the close of the meeting a number of questions were asked atd satisfactorily answered by the lecturer. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Beddoe was carried unanimously. BAND OF HOPE.
He monthly meeting of the Band of Hops was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, when the building was closely packed. The Rev. J. Beckett occupied the chair, and a lengthy and interesting programme of songs, recitationß, etc., was rendered by tha children, assisted by Miss Brodie and Mr Kernot. The Re . D. Madill made a few remarks, impressing upon thosee present the need for actively carrying out their pledges. The meeting cl:sed with a short dialogue by 'the children, trained by the Misses Richardson, who deserve much credit for their efforts. A CONCERT.
An amateur concert company from Auckland paid this district a visit oi Friday evening for the purpose of givirg an entertainment in aid of the Manse Building Fund, on which a tmall debt still remains. The public hall was quit? filled witn a highly appreciative audience, which was so well pleased with tha various items rendered that in almost every case an encore was demanded, and kindly acceded to by the performers. The concert opened with "Selection from Carmen" on the piano by Mr Worsley, the accompanist, which was followed by bv the Misses Fenton ar,d Oliver, and Messrs McLean, Richardson, Hodgson, Crowther, and elocutionary items by Mr Smith. A hearty vote of thanks to the performers and to the secretary Mr Bickerton, proposed by the Rev. D. Madill, brought the meeting to a close. BOWLING. A meeting of the Bowling Club was held on Saturday afternoon on tha green. It was decided to appoint Mr H. Smith as caretaker, with full power to do what is necessary in order to put the green in prop2r condition for next season.
