MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mercer—Wednesday. CIVIL CASES. Thfre was iot a heavy list at the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Mr t\ V. Eraser, S.M., presided. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following cates:—J. Btown and Son (Pokeno) v. Cooper, £5 8s and £1 lis costs; same v. Jack Ware, £9 3s Id, and £1 lis costs; same v. James Robertson, £8 13s Id* costs £1 2s; Valentine and Co. (Mtrc:r) v. Bertha Wilson, £SB 15* 6d a. d £1 13s costs. A judgment summons case, A. G. C. Glass v. Amo and 'luki, Te Puhi, claim for £4 11*, was adjiurned. APLPICATION FOR WAR MEDAL. A oil settler, EJward Bregir.en, applied for the New Zealand war m:dal. Being sworn, le said:—"l served with the Waiuku Rifle Volunteers in 1863 and 1864, and with the Waiuku Cavalry Volunteers from 1865 to 1869. I was engaged in a skirmish with Maoiis at Mauku, between Waiuku and Mauku. in October, i 863, when I wss a member of No 1. Company of th> Waiuku Rifle Volunteers. I have not been guilty of conduct unbecoming a soldier. 1 have not applied for the medal prior to the present time. 1 was under Captain Lloyd in the skirmish referred to. Two of the enemy were shot. I produce a certificate from Major Lusk, who was in command and knew I was under fire." Mr Br gmen is now in charge of the ferry at Rangiriri. The S.M. said he wouid recommend the applicant for the medal.
