THE PIG MARKET.
The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Ltd., reports:— Since publication of our last report the supply of pigs has shown a marked increase, but the supply is considerably limited this year, chiefly owing to the large number of calves being reared, also the high rates ruling for store pigs. We anticipate, however, an increased supply from now onwards.
The Home market is still firm, with every indication of so remaining, but local sales are easier. Farmers, however, can look forward to a prosperous season as far as pigs are concerned. During the month we have shipped a considerable number of pigs to the United Kiagdom. The present advance made to suppliers is as follows : Prime porkers, 60 to 110 pounds, 43d ; prime baconers, 111 to 180 pounds, 43d ; heavy baconers, 181 pounds and over, 3d ; choppers, 2d. The first pool of the new season, embracing all pigs supplied during July and August, is now finalised.
