AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION.

NEW SOUTH WALES RECORDS. Some good production records are claimed for registered purebred cows, which completed official tests in New South Wales during July. Thc total, as listed by the dairy branch department of Agriculture, was 76, and comprised 37 Jerseys, 15 milking Shorthorns, 12 Guernseys, 8 Ayrshires and 4 Illawarras. In the lead of privately-owned cows in 273 days tests was Sir Samuel Hordern’s eleven-year-old Jersey, Retford Maranta, with 75841 b. milk of 6.2 test, and 4701 b. butter-fat. Mr W. B. Burke had a meritorious result with a junior two-year-old Jersey, which recorded 3271 b. fat. Messrs Mclntosh Bros.’ seven-year-old Ayrshire cow, Gerty of Denbigh, produced 12,0431 b. milk, the fat content of which equalled 4171 b. on 3.5 test. Jerseys held a strong lead in the tests of Government cows. Four mature cows at Hawkesbury College, ranging in age from 0 to 73 years, averaged 5661 b. butter-fat. Wagga Ailsa produced 12.0241 b. milk, 5.4 test, and 6491 b. fat, and Wagga Laurel 12,8311 b. milk, 5.0 test, and 6461 b. fat. A highly promising return was that of Laurel of Richmond (two years), with 85991 b. milk, 5.2 test, and 4461 b. fat. The junior three-year-old Ayrshire, Reality 111. of Grafton -id best for her breed, with a yield of 93341 b. milk and 4001 b. fat on 4.3 test.
