Tirau.

Enjoyable Garden Party. A most successful garden party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Allen, Tirau, last week, under the auspices of the Tirau branch <of the Woman’s division of the N.Z. Farmers Union, of which Mrs. Allen is president. During the afternoon the excellent gathering enjoyed quoits and table tennis, and a splendid musical and vocal program-

ing. The competition was won by Mrs. 3. \McLaren and those contributing to the concert programme were Mrs. Higginson (Okoroire) Mrs. S. J. Bear and Mrs. J. Corcoran (songs); Mrs. Jj. Bishop and Mrs. J. McLaren (pianoforte solos) and Mrs. Bishop and Miss Jordan (pianoforte duet). After a very dainty afternoon tea had been served by the members an enthusiastic vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Allen. The whole function was a credit to the hostess and the members.

Kuhtz, Newport, Dennis, T. Bottomley, McGowan, Harvey, Misses Dee, Shaw, Cowan, Jordan, Goodwin, Russell, Osborne and Newport. School Girls’ Concert.

The girls attending the Tirau school gave a very enjoyable concert when “ Snow-white and the Seven Dwarfs ” was staged. In conjunction with the children a play entitled «Mechanical Jane ” was played. A number of instrumental items were given as follow : Trio, Mrs. Bishop, Messrs. West and Bragg ; trio, “Serenade” (Widor), Messrs. Fitzgerald, H. Tinkler and A. Spedding ; quartette, “ Salut d’Amour ” (Elgar), Bishop, Messrs. West, Tinkler Spedding. ■Tr cast of “ Snow-white and the Seyen Dwarfs ” was as follows : - white, Miss Marcia Hunt; 4sfcpen, Miss Marjorie Kuhtz ; Forester, Miss Ruth Allen ; Prince, Miss

Muriel Syme ; First Dwarf, Miss Ruby Brown ; Second Dwarf, Miss Alice Bear ; Third Dwarf, Miss Phyllis Withers ; Fourth Dwarf, Miss Joan Allen ; Fifth Dwarf, Miss Verdun Bear ; Sixth Dwarf, Miss Avice Goodwin ; Seventh Dwarf, Miss Lottie Strong. The cast of “ Mechanical Jane ” was : Miss Tabitha, Mrs. Macky ; Miss Priscilla, Miss Jamieson ; Mechanical Jane, Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald. At the conclusion of the performance Rev. W. T. Brabyn congratulated the performers on their excellent acting, also those responsible for the pretty stage settings and decorations. He called for three cheers for Mesdames A. Stewart and F. Spedding, who had spent much time with the children.
