Okoroire.
Tennis Club Opening. The opening of the Okoroire Tennis Club took place last Saturday. There was a large attendance of players from Matamata, Hinuera, Tirau and Putaruru. A Yankee tournament was played, 10 minutes being allowed each set of players, and Miss Hetherington and Mr. Jensen were the winners of the tournament. A splendid afternoon tea was provided by the club, the shady trees around the courts providing excellent shelter from the sun.
| In declaring the courts open the president of the club, Mr. Goodin, in a humorous speech, said he had consulted a seer, who had predicted that the Okoroire Tennis Club would never be beaten. (Laughter.) Two courts are at present being played on, while a third court is in course of preparation. Mrs. L. Handcock and Mr. Harry Goodwin are joint secretaries of the club and are mainly responsible for the great enthusiasm which is being displayed. Bowling Club Opening. The opening of the Okoroire Bowling Club took place during the weekend, when visitors were present from Putaruru, Tirau, Cambridge, Matamata and Hinuera. In the absence of the president, the club captain (Mr. Newton) welcomed the visitors and declared the season open. Mrs. Brown threw the first jack amid applause. Mr. James, president of the Cambridge club and vice-president of the South Auckland Bowling Association, returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. The ladies provided afternoon i tea, and the hospitality of the club was worthily upheld. A series of enjoyable games took place.
