BURGLARY IN MORRINSVILLE.
TWO SHOPS ENTERED. Side of Bacon Stolen. A burglarous entry was made to the premises of the Farmers’ Meat Company and Mr. L. Ellis’ billiard saloon, Thames street, between 10.30 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. on Monday morning. A side of bacon was stolen from the butcher’s shop, but nothing has been reported missing by Mr. Ellis. The billiard saloon was entered through a back door, which was open. An endeavour was made to force the door between the saloon and the tobacconist shop. Two auger holes were bored above the lock, it apparently being the aim of the intruder to cut a hole large enough to admit his arm to unbolt the door. He was evidently disturbed, as the door was not opened and nothing was missing. The attempt on the butcher’s shop was more successful. The thief apparently secured a ladder or trestle and broke the wire gauze above the plate glass window. Leaning through he seized a side of bacon from the hooks, threw it on to the footpath, where grease marks were to be seen on Monday, and dragged it into the doorway of Mr. Ellis’ shop, later making avay with it.
