MATAMATA SUCCESSES. At the Avondale meeting on Saturday two Matamata successes were recorded, with substantial dividends accompanying each win. Both horses were owned and trained by Mr. J. Clothier. In the Kingsland Hurdle Race, Red Comet, which had not won a race for over 18 months, cleared out from the field and scored by seven lengths. The son of Day Comet—Eruba was eleventh in order favouritism. Getting away with the leading bunch from the awkward mile post, Prince Val raced prominently all the way in the Swanson Handicap. He was well clear in the straight, and, ridden right out, won by five lengths. This was a particularly-good performance, as Prince Val had not done a great deal of work suitable for a mile journey. These were the only Matamata horses at the meeting.
