The Peace Cup.

RETAINED BY MORRINSVILLE. Drawn Game With Thames. With the score 10 all, Morrinsville staved off Thames’ challenge for the Peace Cup. On the run of the game Morrinsville deserved their success, for they were the better side. The game was for the first three quarters an even struggle between the two packs, with plenty of tight, hard pla.y In the last quarter the Morrinsville forwards came into the ascendancy and the backs opening up a series of attacks Thames were rarely out of their 50.

There was no score in the first quarter. In the second C. Cameron started a Morrinsville back passing movement from the line out, and Anderson after a fine run scored. Soon after Wells accepting a bad kick from S. Thomas potted a goal. Thames did not retain the lead long, Anderson putting Morrinsville ahead by returning the compliment with a fine potted goal. J. Winder equalised the score with a penalty. In the third quarter J. Winder repeated his performance and kicked another goal, making the score: Thames 10, Morrinsville 7. In the last quarter, from one of Morrinsville’s back passing movements, Anderson, after transferring to D. Campbell, raced outside him to take the pass again and scored near the comer.

The game was remarkable for the number of free kicks, and possibly it was lucky for Morrinsville that J. Winder was not in his top form. On the other hand W. Cameron. who was' shaving the uprights, kicked a penalty goal which was disallowed for not heing over the mark and another shot hit the upright and bounced back. WAIKATO REPS.
