CLOSE OF PUTARURU SEASON

THE W.E.A. .Valedictory Speeches. The first season of the Putaruru branch of the Workers’ Educational Association was brought to a close on Friday night. At the close of Mr. Stephens’ lecture on “ Bolshevism,” Mr. J. S. Reid, chairman of the committee, in moving a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Stephens, said that the members owed much to that gentleman for his lectures, covering a wide range of subjects, which had been most interesting and instructive. The ideal of the W.E.A. was an educated democracy, to make for better citizenship, and he felt that something in this direction had been accomplished in Putaruru as a result of the formation of the local branch.

Mr. J. C. Ross, the local secretary, in endorsing the chairman’s remarks, referred to the forthcoming departure of Mr. and Mrs. Reid, Messrs. Edmonds and Marshall, stressing the loss that would accrue to the town and district as a result. Mr. Stephens, in returning thanks, expressed the' pleasure it gave him in coming to Putaruru, and he expressed his appreciation of the hosrutalitv extended to him by Mr. and Mrs. Reid and Miss Alcorn.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Alcorn for the use of her room. Miss Alcorn briefly returning thanks. Supper fittingly terminated a pleasant evening.
