BRANCH FOR FUTARUHStT_ Public Meeting to be Callq^. The question of the establishment of a Putaruru branch of the WorkEducational Association was before the April meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday. Mr. Nicklin read a letter he had written to Mr. N. M. Richmond, 8.A., the director of the Auckland district, in which the writer suggested that an effort should be made to start a branch in Pularuru.

In acknowledging receipt of the letter Mr. Richmond stated that he had forwarded the communication to Mr. F. B. Stephens, the tutororganiser for the Wailcato district, who would give the matter his attention. \ Mr. J. C. Ross said Mr. Stephens had been in Putaruru on Tuesday hot had not been able to see either the secretary (Mr. Nicklin) or the president (Mr. Vesper). At Mr. Stephens’ request Mr. Ross acted as spokesman for the latter gentleman, and explained the steps necessary to he taken to form a branch. Mr. Stephens was giving a series of lectures on “ Money Problems, year. The fee for such a coursefris two shillings a member. The box scheme, which dealt with music, art and literature, was more comprehensive, and the fee was five shillings a member. Both series of lectures were followed by the open forum, in which discussion was encouraged. Mr. Nicklin suggested that a public meeting he called and that Mr. Stephens be asked to come and give an address at such meeting. Mr. Ross here explained view of the numerous calls on Mr. Stephens’ time, if a branch were to be formed in Putaruru an average attendance of something like 25 would have to be guaranteed. Mr. J. S. Reid, chairman of Library Committee, stated that his committee was interested in the

formation of a drama circle of the W.E.A. and would be prepared to assist in the direction of a good attendance. The chairman and Mr. Addcnbrooke supported tb.e idea of the establishment of a branch of the organisation in Putaru -u. On the motion of Messrs. Nicklin ar.d Addenbrooke it was call a public meeting, Messrs, v<tsrer (president of the Farmers’ Union) and J. S. Reid (chairman of the library Committee! to art conveners, and that Mr. Stephens De asked to give an address.
