DAYLIGHT SAVING.
DISCUSSED BY FARMERS. Resolution Deferred. The very vexed question of daylight saving was before the monthly meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday. The question arose as a result of the provincial secretary of the union asking for a resolution from the branch on the matter.
The chairman, Mr. Vosper, said that personally he liked the half hour and he would be in favour of keeping the clocks advanced to that extent all the year round, as he agreed with Mr. West, cf Matamata, that if the clocks were permanently advanced half an hour they would be nearer to the mean of the correct time. Mr. Addenbrooke agreed that the half hour advance was all right. ; Mr. L. M. Nicklin was opposed to i any alteration in the time. He pointed out the hardship it entailed on the children in regards going to school. It meant the children getting up far too early, but Mr. Ad- • denbrooke said that he did not see the force of this much used argument. i Mr. Vosper gave it as his opinion that he was opposed to the one hour ’nerease, as he believed that that had entailed a hardship on farmers milking large herds, and who were a long way from a cream dump. Mr. Nicklin suggested that the nresent attendance was far too small to warrant an expression of opinion | by the resolution and his suggestion ’ that the matter be left over until the next meeting was agreed to.
