TIRAU.

Ladies’ Guild. The annual meeting of the Tirau Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held last Thursday afternoon, Mr. W. T. Brabyn presiding over a large attendance. The report and balance - sheet was presented and read by the retiring secretary, Mrs. F. Spedding, and disclosed a very flourishing state of affairs. The meetings have been well attended, and the public heartily responded to each function arranged by the guild. The..flower show showed a net profit of over £BB, and the children’s exhibition over £2B, onethird of that being paid over to the Tirau school committee for improvements to the school grounds. These receipts, together with members’ subscriptions and donations, enabled the guild to hand over to the church committee £l2O to liquidate the debt on the church and purchase a section for a manse.

Office bearers for the year were elected as follows: President, Mrs. M. Coubrough, senr.; vice-presidents, Mesdames, A. Stewart and J. IV. Amoore; secretary and treasurer, Mrs N. Coubrough. Many appreciative remarks ware made regarding ther faithful work done by the retiring secretary, Mrs. Spedding and a very hearty vote of thanks were accorded her Afternoon tea was handed round, and concluded a very hearty and optimistic meeting. Church Service. The Tirau church was filled last Sunday evening, when a special song service was held. A strong choir led the service of praise and solos were given by Miss Watson and Mr. Brabyn, and two anthems by the choir. The congregation heartily joined in singing some of the well-known hymns, composed by Charles Wesley and Mr. Brabyn’s address was based on the well-known hymn, “ Jesus, Lover of My Soul.”
