HIGH-PRODUCING JERSEY.
f WILL HEAD NEW ZEALAND. Rexcourt Lady Magnet’s Record. I Owned by Morrinsville Farmer. | l The record for high production by i a purebred three-year-old Jersey cow j will go this year to Rexcourt Lady ; Magnet, a fine beast owned by Mr. |J. J. Goodwin, of Morrinsville. To I date the cow has produced 810 pounds ■of butterfat in 315 days, and it is expected that when the testing period of 365 days is finished the figure will
reach SSO pounds. Mr. Goodwin had hopes that the cow would beat the New Zealand record for a three-year-old Jersey of 905 pounds, but owing to the drought this achievement is not now possible. The cow has been running with the herd and has been machine-milked | twice a day, but has been given supI plementary feeding. Rexcourt Lady Magnet is by Investor’s Bachelor from Brookdale Princess, and was bred by Mr. W. Luxton, of Waitoa. The dam was never tested, hut comes from a well-known high-producing family. One of her calves was sold for 75 guineas. Rexcourt Lady Magnet proved her worth by producing 597 pounds of butterfat as a junior two-year-old. The cow’s achievement entitles Mr. Goodwin to receive a gold medal for possessing the best three-year-old and also a special gold medal for a cow producing over 750 pounds of butterfat. Loth awards are made by the Jersey Breeders’ Association. Only two cows were tested by Mr. Goodwin this season, the other beast, a two-year-old, having already produced 446 pounds of butterfat in 275 days. She will do between 520 and 530 pounds over the testing period.
