WAIKATO MEETING. The Waikato Racing Club will c-pen its autumn meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday, and the acceptances promise a good day’s racing. The fields generally will be large, but racegoers have recent form to guide them in many events.
Proceedings will open with the Frankton Hurdles. The distance, one and a-lialf miles, should suit Lady Spalpeen, but she has gone up in the weights. The machine will probably show Ripon Abbey and Rahepoto to be most favoured by the i>ublic. Tile Maiden Stakes has attracted acceptances from thirty-nine owners, which will mean a two division race. Indications point to Parfait Amour being favourite with Kyngzone and Te Waka also supported. The Juvenile Handicap is over five furlongs, a furlong less than the lop weights have been asked to go in recent races. Gold Money will carry support with Katerina. Valkyriti may carry investments for a saver.
Aussie will step out as top weight in the Storey Memorial. Brilliant as be undoubtedly is, he will have to be taken on trust over ten furlongs. Eden Hall has quite enough weight, but the public will give the next on the list, Valkon, a royal chance. There is plenty of room for a surprise, but the favourites may be Valkon, Branson and Town Bank. If it rains at all heavily between now and Saturday, Llandudno will no doubt be supported. The weakest field of the day is in the Lenley Handicap, a race for hacks over a mile. Investors will no doubt consider Cybele as being nicely t laced with 7.8, Speechless with 7.7 and Always with the minimum. However, Cybele and Respirator should be best supported. The High Weight Handicap should be one of the best races of the day, for there are some good milers engaged. Le Choucas is asked to carry a big welter weight. It is extremely difficult to pick what the public will go for, but Matinee, Mervette and Te Koroke will carry investments. The numbers will go round merrily for Nancy Lee when the machine opens for the open six furlong race, but Royal Tea’s victory at Avondale will cause money to go that way also. Tinokoa should also carry money.
There are winners and maidens in the Beerescourt Handicap, of seven furlongs, the concluding race of the cay. The public have been waiting to invest on Orchus, but some will prefer Waltzer and Whaka King.
