BOWLING.
PUTARURU CLUB. The championship singles tournament of the Putaruru Bowling Club is creating a deal of interest, and r.ow that the programme is half finished some surprising results are in evidence. Recent games played are as follow:—Hollard 26 v. King 13, Blomfield 19 v. Francis 17, Francis 28 v. Brown 11, Hollard 20 v. Lindsey 14, King- 19 v. Blomfield 18, Hollard 22 v. Blomfield 21, Lindsey 18 v. King 12, Francis 20 v. Griffiths 12, Francis 19 v. Lindsey 15, Lindsey 19 v. Blomfield 18. The game between last year’s champion (Blomfield) and Hollard, who looks like winning’ the event this year, was a great tussle, the score being 21 all at the 21st head. On playing a further head Blomfield lay 2 up when Hollard wicked in with his last ball and secured the game. Championship Table. The championship table now reads as follows:
Handicap Singles. Giving Yandle 10 points, Francis secured a comfortable win by 7 points in the above competition. Score: Francis (2) 30 v. Yandle (12) 23. A SPORTING BOWLER. An incident from the Dominion bowling championships. The lead of
an opposing rink, well down the boar<l on the Canterbury green, suggested laughingly that Professor Maxwell Walker (Ponsohby) leave the five lying shots against him. “ They look too pretty to spoil,” added the lead. The professor agreed. “ You’re on,” he said, and the five was registered against Ponsonby. This is the spirit that makes the game what it is.
