VICARAGE PROJECT.

REFERRED TO CHURCH COMMITTEE. A meeting of parishioners of St. Paul’s Anglican Church was held in the Oddfellows’ room, Yandle’s Buildings, on Wednesday evening of last week to further the matter of the erection of a vicarage at Putaruru. The resident curate, Mr. O. Chamberlin, presided over an attendance of about 12 parishioners, mostly ladies. Plans for a vicarage were shown, and the chairman explained that if it was found impossible to finance the erection of the whole structure forthwith, thfee rooms, say, could be erected now and the house completed at a later date. For his own part he wished to make it quite clear that he desired to meet the present circumstances of the district. He had made no stipulations as to the kind of vicarage that should be provided, except that, for reasons which he had made known, he considered the vicarage should not be erected on the section at the rear of the cliurch. Mr. Chamberlin also announced that the vicarage fund now stood at £lO3, of which most was in hand. With board for himself, the total expenses, including* the £6O per annum as interest and sinknig fund on the church, were approximately at the rate of £3lO per annum, but interest on the vicarage should be less than board and should reduce the expenses to about £2BB. The estimated revenue, exclusive of any income at all from bazaars, entertainments, etc., was estimated at £306 per annum. Thus the building of the vicarage and the retention of a resident curate was apparently quite within the district’s means. It was agreed after a short discussion that the whole matter be referred to the local church committee with power to act. CHURCH SECRETARY. Mr. A. H. Dukeson, jun., has been appointed secretary and treasurer to the committee and Mr. Walter Brown assistant secretary. LICHFIELD PARISHIONERS. A meeting of parishioners of the Church of England was held in the school, Lichfield, on Friday evening, Mr. O. Chamberlin, curate, in the cvhair. It was decided to form a local church committee for Lichfield and the following were elected:—Mr. A. Vincent, vicar’s warden; Mr. W. Baldwin, people’s warden; Mesdames All wood, Bowler and Miss Kells (secretary and treasurer). The committee was given power to add two more members to its number. The secretary was instructed to write to the church committee at Putaruru offering the meeting’s hearty co-operation and support in the work of the church.
