At a social gathering- held in the vicinity of Stratford recently a man who had been called upon to respond to the toast of the ladies expressed surprise that he should have been selected**'to do so. The honour, he maintained, had been sprung upon him unawares, but he would do his best. He then produced a notebook and read the necessary speech.
