THE BEAUTY OF THE GORGE.

PROTECTING NATIVE BUSH. A visit to the Arapuni gorge, along the original pathway, shows that a certain amount of surface clearing has been done at the site of the dam, but notices are posted forbidding the lighting of fires or any other act likely to result in damage to the native bush _in the gorge, except where absolutely unavoidable on the part of the contractors. This is a commendable precaution on the part of the Public Works Department to preserve for all time a unique beauty spot.
